* 04.04.12 Hello! Magical Beautiful are working on a new album! The songs are really good! It sounds very different, at least to us, than Here Come The Wild Waves. We are also playing shows in Chicago every couple months. The next one is May 27 at Schubas with The Donkeys (CA, Dead Oceans) & Advance Base (f.k.a. Casiotone For The Painfully Alone).
* 12.09.11 Tyson & Nick are playing a duo set of psychedelic space jams at the Whistler on Monday the 12th. It is free to attend. Magical Beautiful is playing its first Chicago show in four months on Wednesday the 21st at the Empty Bottle. It is also free as long as you RSVP. See the shows page for details.
Don't have the Here Come The Wild Waves yet? BUY IT. All copies come with free MP3 download of the entire album, plus the Right Rock CDEP!!!
* 09.02.11 Excellent review (8 out of 10) of Here Come The Wild Waves from Foxy Digitalis. "...a truly cohesive album that invokes the spirit and function of the rock’n'roll canon’s masterworks while matching the aesthetic of the very best private press records." Thanks!
Little tiny Midwest tour went great - peace to Handsome Furs, Purity Ring and Chandeliers.
We are four songs deep into the second LP. Expect more more streamlined song structures, heavier sounds and some serious beats.
Sadly, Hear A New World Studios has to start looking for a new home. I Hear A New Radio recently uploaded a new episode featuring much talk of Here Come The Wild Waves.
* 08.07.11 We are playing this Wednesday at Lincoln Hall. It is a benefit to raise awareness for, and to hopefully put an end to food deserts in Chicago. It starts early, at 6PM, and there is a full evening of events planned, with Magical Beautiful as the last 'event'. Before 8PM, they are asking $18 at the door, which I know is pricey - so we've managed to get a discount for people that are just interested in the music at $13 after 8PM. There will still be free food at this time, and Thin Hymns are playing as well. Anyone 18 or over is welcome.
The Midwest tour dates are coming along and will be announced this week. A tour return show for MB and our friends Chandeliers is happening on Monday, Aug 29 at Subterranean with Magic Key and Distractions. This show is 17+.
* 07.11.11 Our favorite record store(s) in Chicago, Reckless, has been doing a good job selling our new LP, "Here Come The Wild Waves". They also wrote a much more concise description of the record than IHANW did:
"Vinyl debut for the enigmatic Chicago band MAGICAL BEAUTIFUL. If you've had the pleasure of seeing these guys live then you already know about their propensity for loading the stage with ridiculous amounts of instruments & effects, most of which are controlled seemingly effortlessly by keyboardist & vocalist Tyson Torstensen. The band started working on this album back in 2007 & one of the first things that you'll notice is that these recordings have been treated with great care. There's a deep spectrum of spacey keyboard sounds that bounce from ear to ear (definitely check this one out on headphones by the way), dubby delay effects & a lot of washy reverb. The group also uses horns, melodica & a variety of stringed instruments to achieve their unique sound. We hear bits of Eno's rock album specifically "Here Come the Warm Jets", 70's Deutsch rock like CAN & NEU, Bowie's "Low" (not too surprising as this was produced by Eno in Germany in the 70's) & TALKING HEADS. Be sure to check out Torstensen on bass & keyboards in his other group, Chicago prog monsters GA'AN. An impressive debut." - Matt Jencik (Implodes; Hurl; Don Caballero)
We are touring the East Coast and Midwest again in late August. If you'd like to help out with one of those shows, contact us at ihearanewworld (at) gmail.com
* 06.15.11 - Lots of news! First of all, the album that we have been promising for the past four years is now here. It's called "here come the wild waves" and is available directly from I Hear A New World on vinyl LP. Each purchase comes with a complimentary MP3 download of the album. Please click on the following links to find out more:.
** To stream the entire album and purchase high quality digital files for cheap, go to Magical Beautiful's BANDCAMP.
*** To purchase the LP (which comes with mp3 download) for $12, go to I HEAR A NEW WORLD'S online shop. You can also get T-SHIRTS there.
**** For international orders (and a pretty right-on review of the album), or if you'd like to buy our record plus records by other recording artists, go to RECKLESS RECORDS
****** I Hear A New Radio episode about "here come the wild waves" forthcoming!
******* The official release show is on June 24 at Pancho's in Chicago. We are happy to be playing with our friends IMPLODES (Kranky Records); Sapat (from Kentucky, on Siltbreeze) and Bastardgeist (on Brainlove). It is for people 18 and older, starts at 9PM and costs $7. Here is the .
******** We are also playing at Saki Record's one-year anniversary at 1PM on Saturday, June 18. This is free, and fun. If you have to choose one show, we think Pancho's will be better, but if you want to go to both, or can only attend Saki, that shit will still be good.
********* We are going on an East Coast tour in August. Stay tuned for dates!
********** Of course, Tyson's Tumblr is always going. No de-contextualized youtube links. No reposts. All original content. All edited. No bullshit.
*03.14.11(revised 04.08.11) - "Here Come The Wild Waves" is at the printing plant and will be available in LP format in stores and online in early May. The "official" release will be early June. Here is the front and back cover collage that Charlie put together for the album artwork. We currently only have one show scheduled: April 22 at the Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport with the (other) best live band in Chicago, Mahjongg, as a part of the 11th Version Fest. This event, as well as all Version events (as far as I know), are welcome to All Ages.
*12.22.10 - In 2008, Alance and Tyson recorded a version of Vince Guaraldi's "Christmastime Is Here" (from Charlie Brown's Christmas). An Irish guy that was putting together a christmas compilation album asked Magical Beautiful for a song, and when we gave it to him, it was rejected. It occurred to me that maybe people in the UK didn't grow up with Charlie Brown, (who is very American, come to think of it). Anyway, I still like our version, even though it's a pretty huge bummer of a song. Recorded live onto 4-track cassette, with bits of dialog from A Charlie Brown Christmas overdubbed in random spots. Here it is: Magical Beautiful - Christmastime Is Here (Vince Guaraldi). Right click to save.
*12.06.10 - Sound/Video updated with three web edits (intros/outros cut out) of songs from "Here Come The Wild Waves" and the incredible Giant System video. Charlie is finishing up the cover artwork for the new album, so we should be "on schedule" for an early 2011 release. PEACE.
*11.15.10 - New blog thing at ihanw.tumblr.com. Three shows coming up, at which Magical Beautiful will be debuting the songs "Ghetto Tourist" and "The Magic And The Beauty".
*10.12.10 - Two new jams from Here Come The Wild Waves streaming now at myspace.com/magicalbeautiful. On that site you can hear the second track from the album, "Purest Place" and our complete re-imagining of the Mount Eerie hit "Flaming Home". On the album, both songs link up with their respective next tracks, so when listened to on myspace they stop rather jarringly.
